Portloe is considered one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall. Derived from the Cornish Porth Logh meaning cove pool, the village's naturally sheltered position meant it was a busy pilchard fishing port in the 17th and 18th centuries - crabs and lobster are now the main catches of the day. The Lugger Hotel and Ship Inn offer fine food in a relaxed atmosphere and in the centre of the village opposite the church, cream teas and provisions and snacks are on offer. Portloe is a short drive from the picturesque cove of Portholland, and the villages of Portscatho and St Mawes.
Dolphin Cottage is a cosy mid-terrace former Coastguards Cottage situated on the edge of the picturesque fishing village of Portloe.
